Upcoming new hotels and revamped Jurong Lake recreation park are already in the pipeline in URA Masterplan 2014.

Urban Redevelopment Authority's (URA) Masterplan is now turning district 22 into a centre for commerce and leisure. The Jurong Lake District will be made up of two precincts, Jurong Gateway and Lakeside, served by two major expressways and three MRT stations, in area of 360 hectares site, size of Marina Bay, set to house both commercial development and waterfront leisure destination. The Jurong Gateway is located in the Jurong East area and will comprise over 750, 000 sq m of land for offices, hotels, food and beverage, and entertainment uses. This is roughly two-and-a-half times the size of Tampines Regional Centre and is expected to attract billions of dollars in investment. There will be also an integrated transport hub with a new bus interchange and improved MRT station. Once renovation works for Jurong East MRT station is completed, it will offer seamless connection to new office and residential buildings, just next to it. Residents hoping for short commutes to work can look forward to new jobs at the Jurong Business and Commercial zone. A notable capital appreciation has been observed in residential housing over these few years, and will continue to rise in presence of so many promising development in the pipeline.

During National Day Rally 2014, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced plans to merge the Japanese Garden, Chinese Garden and Jurong Lake Park into the Jurong Lake Gardens, which could become a "people's garden" to rival parks like the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park. An ambitious transformation is planned to revitalise the area which includes a revamped Science Centre, and possibly the terminus for the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail. The new Science Centre that the Prime Minister says will be the "jewel" in the Lake Gardens' crown. To be completed around 2020, the centre will be located near the Chinese Garden MRT station. This will allow the Centre to extend into Jurong Lake Gardens, and integrate with the living environment, thereby raising possibilities of an entirely new concept for the centre.

In the longer-term, Prime Minister Lee says this may mean shifting the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) southwards to create more space next to the lake. A possibility that the high-speed rail terminus may come to the Jurong Lake District, which by then will make Jurong truly an exciting gateway to Singapore.
